Real location showing on whatismyipaddress.com

With vyprvpn connected through the android app, the website ‘whatismyipaddress.com’ shows my actual location - presumably by using the phones gps data rather than it’s ip address.
Is this a concern?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Hello @David_Cooke,

From your connection history, I am showing you are connecting to the same server location in a city you are currently located. So if you want your location to appear differently, you would need to select a different server location to connect to. ( http://i.imgur.com/2I8s0V5.png )

If are stating it is your IP address specifically that is not changing, it may be possible the page you are loading is cached as I do see we have been assigning you a VyprVPN IP address each time you have connected.

If the latter is the case, I’d recommend clearing your browser’s cache and cookies, then try reloading the page.

Can you also confirm if you are seeing the same results on https://www.goldenfrog.com/whatismyipaddress?

Thank you in advance for this information. We look forward to hearing from you!

Hi there and thanks for the reply.
The website I mentioned asks for location data permission.
It shows my IP address as being successfully rerouted by vyprvpn but also shows my exact location by using my GPS data.
I’m just asking if my location data can be extracted in the same way by other websites?
In other words should I have GPS location turned off on my phone as part of good anonymity practice?

Thanks :+1:

Hello, @David_Cooke

The VPN will not affect your GPS location. If this is a concern for you, I would recommend disabling location services on your browsers and devices.

Thanks for your time!
